So, the news from Colorado:
Dan is significantly better from his bike wreck, but still recovering. He and Jake installed two ultra low-flow toilets this weekend, for which we get $250 back from Denver Water. The one in the basement had developed a crack in the tank, and the plumbers wanted $900 or so to replace just the one. Sheesh. So I did some shopping online, and we did the right thing, environmentally speaking. Replacing both thrones will cost us about $180 in the end. They are working really well. Special, super-efficient Toto toilets from Japan.
I went to Breckenridge with my friend Linda this weekend to visit our friend Janis, who used to live here in Denver but who moved to Mass. a couple of years ago. They have a condo in Breck and a couple of kids the same ages as our kids. Their older has dropped out of higher ed (it was an audio engineering program somewhere in Florida) and is going to live in the condo now, while working at the gas station/store at the bottom of the hill. Hmmm ... these kids just have to learn to make it on their own!!! Nothing much going on in Breckenridge --- it's kind of a phony town, built around skiing -- lots of shopping and beautiful scenery, but not much else.
Kate, meanwhile, went to Steamboat Springs with her best friend, two other girls, the friend's mom and the friend's mom's boyfriend. They went to the hot springs pool at Steamboat, the alpine slide and hiking. It was essentially her friend's birthday party, but I think her grandad got them a deal on the condo they stayed in.
Jake's still working hard at Panera and really, really looking forward to returning to school, about August 18th. He had another small bike mishap. He and my neighbor Pat sort of gently ran into each other -- his bike and her car -- no damage other than that Jake's bike needs a new front tire. Makes you wonder though, doesn't it?
I'm still working pretty hard, looking for a regular paycheck. I get a reasonable number of interviews, but haven't cracked the code of whatever people are looking for yet. I'm also cleaning out a lot of closets ...
I think we need to get together next summer. As many folks as are willing to come. I miss you guys. Mike says August is usually good for them. That's fine by me, as far as I know. Comments? Suggestions?
How are the new moms and soon-to-be-moms doing?

what exotic places ya'all go to - it's such a different world out there. do you have any place in mind for next summer - we usually(sorry - i just can't remember how to spell that last word this early in the am) look for someplace cooler to go in august, but folks from denver and boston might be ready for something beachy. i wonder where the exact middle is between atlanta/jacksonville and denver and boston. we are planning to go no where this august as liz's due date is the
19th.
p.s. - jake, are you wearing a helmut, i hope?
we have one of those environmental thrones and would like to get 2 more. i've never been especially excited about a new toilet before but we really enjoy this one.
p.p.s it's not 2:20am as stated in the previous post - it's 4:26am. still too early to be up, though. i'll probably take a nap soon.
Yeah, I don't think we want to go to kansas or anywhere like that.
I'd probably go wherever others are willing to go. I'm always up for the beach.
How about a lake vacation? we took a fun one to michigan a couple of years ago.
Jake does wear a helmet now.
New Mom (AGAIN!) checking in. :) We're doing great here!!! Glad to hear everyone is doing just as well over yonder!!! :D
We would love, love, LOVE to take a trip to see everyone. That's all Kevin talks about. :) Just let us know when and where and we're THERE!!
