What This Dad is Doing on Father's Day
Since the purpose of this blog is to keep everyone informed: Dan took a tumble off his bike this a.m. -- He is doing OK, but he fractured three ribs and punctured his right lung. He went over a water bar too fast -- his foot came out of the clip, and he went over the handlebars. He sliced the visor off his helmet but apparently didn't hit his head otherwise. Astonishingly, he drove home from Green Mountain in Lakewood. His buddy Ron called me from the trail in the interim to tell me he thought Dan was injured pretty badly. So ... when Dan got home and said he was having trouble breathing, I got him in the car and took him to the ER. He's at Littleton Hospital with a chest tube to reinflate the lung; he'll probably be there 1-3 days. He'll be out from work for awhile because of the ribs. Extremely painful, but he's fine as long as he keeps still. I'll keep you posted.
In other news, Jake also had a bike mishap on Wednesday. A car clipped him making a right turn when he was crossing the intersection on the north side at University and Orchard, coming home from work. He had the walk sign. The car was going pretty slow, and Jake is totally OK -- just a few scrapes and bruises on his back/hip from landing on the pavement. Paramedics came to the scene and checked him out. He was not wearing a helmet, so he was very, very lucky. He took one day off from work because ... well ... wouldn't you?
Anyway, good Father's Day all you newer and older dads, and everybody, please WEAR A FREAKIN' HELMET.

A Blessing for Lolita
May God protect you from every kind of danger.
May God give you the strength & courage to use failure as
a chance for a new start.
May you be filled with health & wholeness.
May you be blessed with prosperity
May you never be so caught up in material things that
you forget that the significance of life lies not in possessions
or money, but in love.
May you find the beauty & joy that surrounds you in God’s creation.
May you find fulfillment in whatever you choose to do.
May you use your talents & gifts to help others .
May you love unconditionally and may you be unconditionally loved.
May your happiness be unmarred by evil, spite, or maliciousness.
May your path be one of kindness & goodness.
May you be a source of light & inspiration to those you love, and may
they be the same to you.
May you be filled with wisdom & grace, with virtue &
knowledge, with patience & action.
May you be forever comforted by a strong & enduring faith.

I remember....
Riding on a lawnmower behind Grandpa Barbare AND Uncle Herbert. And Herbert is responsible for me making noises with my mouth, as he used to do it to entertain me.
